What We Do

aGRO Systems is a waste up-cycling and livestock feeding service provider and on a mission to grow, raise, and produce healthy carbon-neutral food and drink and help other agri-producers and agri-processors do the same profitably.

Community Regenerative Ranching with Farm Fresh Food Goods
In collaboration with other ranches that use our craft products and services—we provide small businesses and consumers with farm fresh beef, eggs, jams, honey and teas.

Byproduct Removal Service & Food Rescue
We provide the food and beverage industries with waste removal services to upcycle or repurpose damaged foods and by-products rather than using the landfill. We work with craft breweries, distilleries, cider houses and food processors to turn their waste (spent grain, yeast and hops) into livestock feeds. We intend to also rescue damaged wholesale items for local food charities like Leftovers when possible!

Spent Grain Feed Ingredients
We transform waste outputs from our waste rescue services info affordable feed and composts for farms and ranches.

What We Believe In

aGRO aims to help Canadian agriculturalists to be progressive and profitable at the grassroots so community health, the environment, and our global food system can thrive.

We believe providing products and services that improve the profitability of local food and beverage producers will create healthier foods for consumers, create better quality jobs and improve the environment all in the same instance.  Through encouraging diversified family farms, better connecting farm to table, and reducing emissions and wastes that procure in the supply chain, we can reverse climate change and end food insecurity.

Why We Exist

aGRO was created for John Ross, and the countless men and women who work hard to feed our world, but do not receive the financial reward or stability they deserve. aGRO’s founder, Victoria Ross, hated seeing her father John having to work full-time as a rancher and take a second job to keep the bills paid. Completing an entrepreneurship project in 2015, Victoria learned that nearly 50% of Canadian farmers need a second job, and that the smaller-scaled producers like her father, were in fact part one of the most environmentally sustainable classes of farm food production.

José Graziano da Silva, director general of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization has said that,

“Nothing comes closer to the sustainable food production than family farming. The preservation of natural resources is rooted in their product logic; and the highly diversified nature of their agricultural activities gives them a central role in promoting the sustainability of our food systems and ensuring food security.”

Since then, a fire in her belly ignited. The men and women who put food on our plate—and intend to do it sustainably—do not deserve to question how they will afford to put food onto their own plates. That was why aGRO was born.

The aGRO Family

Vic_heashot.png

Victoria Ross / CEO & Founder
Boss Woman--always hustling because 24 hours isn't enough for one day. Born and raised in beautiful Westwold, British Columbia, but ready to take on the world in the great wild west of Alberta! The brain child that started aGRO Systems from the idea of a science fair experiment in grade 9 and then took it into an entrepreneur class during her BCOMM degree at the University of Calgary. Her ideas may have morphed, pivoted and transformed over the years but she has always stuck true in her vision to support farmers and the environment. You will see her running trucks, picking up grain, washing equipment, feeding livestock, sending company emails, texts, managing invoices, and everything else in between. She is passionate in improving food production and distribution to make a more equitable world for all and reverse climate change in the process. She believes the men and women who put food on our plates deserve not to question how they will keep the lights on in their homes.

John_headshot.png

John Ross (AKA Papa John) / Operations & Ranch Manager
Papa John, the real deal cowboy. He is the man who inspired aGRO Systems, by busting his butt with a second job on top of farming while Victoria was growing up. He now works alongside Victoria everyday. In the summer of 2018, John moved to Calgary to help Victoria expand her client base of 3 breweries to 25 in under 18 months. He is the rock that keeps the aGRO engine running by wearing many different cowboy hats–mechanic, truck driver, salesman, problem solver, customer service rep, and handyman. He is one of the best people you will ever have the pleasure to meet and have a laugh with. Fun Fact: He loves country music, but is also the biggest fan of Katy Perry and Jesse Reyez.

Dr. Joenel Alcantara / Chief Science Officer
The mad scientist (actually just a really sweet man who is also a genius) behind the scenes that helped aGRO develop from class project into a legitimate business. He is also moving through other schooling and research that will help advance aGRO in its future endeavours with biotechnology in regenerative agriculture.
Fun fact: Joenel is a big suphero nerd, and also holds a doctorate in molecular plant biology and is finishing his program to receive his general practitioner as well!
